Welcome to the Jonas Salk Middle School web site! Our site is intended to be informative and to provide you with a snapshot of what our school has to offer.
Jonas Salk Middle School is located on West Greystone Road in the most western portion of Old Bridge Township, New Jersey, and was opened in 1970 along with our sister school, Carl Sandburg Middle School. Jonas Salk himself dedicated the school in 1973 and was proud that our school bears his name. We receive students from seven elementary schools within the district including Carpenter, Grissom, Miller, Schirra, Shepard, Southwood and Voorhees Elementary Schools. Our web site is growing
and updated regularly by our own students in conjunction with staff members.
Parents continue to play an important role in our children’s education, so our
PTA is an active force in our daily routine. The Salk community has an excellent
reputation in the Old Bridge educational system as our students achieve at high
levels and the staff work tirelessly at making the middle school years both
educational and enjoyable.
January 2008 Dear Parents and Guardians, Winter will soon turn to spring and Jonas Salk Middle School will again administer the New Jersey State Assessment to your children. The New Jersey Assessment of Skills and Knowledge is a four day state assessment of student achievement in language arts, math, and science (eighth grade only) that was implemented in 2003 to meet the requirements of the No Child Left Behind Act. Seventh and Eighth grade students will be tested the week of April 28th – May 1st. Sixth grade students will be assessed during the week of May 5th – 8th. Make-up tests for absent children will take place the week following each test. The staff at Jonas Salk has taken great lengths to assure that your child is equipped with the skills necessary to be successful on the NJ ASK. All content area teachers were provided in September with data significant to each child’s performance on the NJ ASK from 2007. Multiple programs have been put in place to provide the students with supplemental instruction in preparation for the NJ ASK. These programs include student mentoring, T.E.A.M. after school assistance, and Peer Tutoring. Your assistance in ensuring that children are in attendance and well rested on these testing dates is very important to their success. Please encourage your child to perform to the best of his/her ability. If you have any questions regarding the NJ ASK, please feel free to contact your child’s guidance counselor or myself.
